The US Department of Defense began delivering 24 anti-ambush and anti-mine vehicles (Mrap) and 34 turrets (air gunner protection kits) for Mmas to Port-au-Prince from August 23, 2024, the Southern Command (Southern Command) announced in a press release.
Dozens of armored vehicles were also delivered to the PNH.
The 34 gunner protection kits, commonly referred to as “turrets,” will be delivered and installed on the armored vehicles by contractors funded by the U.S. Department of Defense.
The Southern Command stressed that the objective: to use the Mrap to improve tactical vision and protect Mmas personnel during joint security operations conducted by the PNH.
Mmas said other equipment and armoured vehicles are expected to be delivered in the coming days.
