fiveVarsinais-Suomen Ely-keskus informed that the safety of underpass No. 8 between Mynämäki and Pori will be improved by updating the current automatic traffic safety monitoring to radar technology.
When completed, the highway section will include 22 control points equipped with radar technology, 11 of which will be bidirectional.
The project will see most of the existing control points replaced with new radar technology, new control points added and existing control points arranged and streamlined to better serve the current safety of the road. In addition, old camera surveillance information signs throughout the road will be updated in accordance with current guidelines.
Project construction engineering Construction of the service distribution points will begin in September 2024. Thereafter, new equipment poles, equipment boxes and traffic signs will be installed. The construction will not have a significant impact on traffic. The new control points will be handed over to the police in December 2024, and the police will carry out the necessary commissioning procedures for these control points.
The new camera poles are equipped with radar technology, which can measure speed from a greater distance than the old camera technology. Speed can be measured up to 150 meters away. The cameras can monitor the speed of several different vehicles in different lanes at the same time. Varsinais-Suomen Ely-keskus said video surveillance can also be used to monitor red light violations at intersections.
The control point currently under construction was planned in cooperation with the Southwest Finland Police, the Valsinaiili Centre in Finland and the traffic control company Fintraffic Tie Oy. The control point is implemented and maintained by Fintraffic Tie Oy. The contractor for the project is Normivalaistu Oy.
