Experimental rice production has begun in the Mazozo area of Ikoro Bengo municipality in Luanda.
The director of agriculture and fisheries of the municipalities of Ikolo and Bengo, Salomão Manuel, said that the initiative intends to be extended to 20 hectares of land with the support of the Agricultural Development Support Fund (FADA).
The official said trial planting is currently being carried out on a one-hectare plot of land in the Mazozo area.
“The experience is there, we can make rice in our municipality. We are building one hectare of land and the harvest is expected to be 36 tons in the area, and the rice is growing very well”, he stressed.
Remember that Ikoro and Bengo have been administratively part of the province of Luanda since 2012. However, with the new political administration approved by Congress, from next year the category of province will be upgraded.
