Inflation can be one of the most terrifying forces in the economy: Prices are rising all around you, decisions become more chaotic, your money becomes less available, and you feel poorer, all without your control.

We got you.

Inflation is when too much money in the economy chases too many free goods and services, driving up prices. Inflation also undermines our collective confidence in the economy as a whole. When the value of our money is uncertain, our behavior becomes equally uncertain.

In this week’s course, we travel to a time and place where we can clearly see how inflation works. We also see what didn’t work and what finally worked in today’s course. We travel to Brazil, where a decade-long period of hyperinflation threatens one of the world’s largest economies. In their time of need, the country turns to an unlikely group of heroes: four drinking buddies.

We cover:

  • Inflation and Hyperinflation
  • Money Printing/Money Supply
  • Wage-price spiral
