The body of a British man who was part of a six-member Reuters team at a hotel in Kramatorsk was found in the rubble after Russian shelling of it overnight Saturday and Sunday. The agency identified the victim as Ryan Evans, 38, who advised journalists on security matters.
“Rescuers found the body of the deceased under the rubble,” said Oleksandr Honcharenko, the mayor of Kramatorsk. Ukrainian police said the deceased was a 40-year-old British citizen who was an employee of foreign media.
Reuters identified the dead man as Ryan Evans, a British citizen who was assigned to a team covering the war in Ukraine. Evans worked as a security adviser for the agency.
Reuters reported that “Evans, a former British soldier, has worked for Reuters since 2022, providing security advice to journalists around the world, including Ukraine, Israel and the Paris Olympics. He is 38 years old.”
On Sunday morning, the head of the local authorities, Vadym Filashkin, announced that four members of the Reuters team were injured in the Russian attack on a hotel in Kramatorsk. According to Filashkin, the injured were from Latvia, Ukraine, the United States and Germany.
Reuters reported in a statement that a six-member journalist team from the agency was staying at the Sapphire Hotel in Kramatorsk.
