His Royal Highness the Crown Prince – may God bless him – proudly crowned the Saudi club “Team Falcons”, champions of the Esports World Cup from nearly 500 teams and 1,500 professional players worldwide, and received $7 million of a total prize pool of more than $60 million, the largest prize in the history of esports, after participating in 12 tournaments, earning 5,665 points and taking first place in the “Call of Duty: Warzone” and “Free Fire” tournaments. Their victory in the tournament confirms that the Kingdom, with its own talent, is a leading global destination in the field of esports.
The event brings together the gaming and esports community of players, fans, game makers and publishers, and is a global platform to support the development of the esports industry, with a unique multi-game and category system. With the participation of the best clubs, it strengthens the efforts of all parties in the Kingdom and around the world to promote the reality of esports. Redefine its positive impact on society, its role in strengthening cultural dissemination, and encourage brands to consider it as a promising and important area of investment.
The 8-week eSports World Cup set historical records on many levels this year, and its organizational level won the recognition of global audiences. The ratings also confirmed this, with the event receiving more than 1 million visitors, which increased the number of visitors to Riyadh by more than 29% over last year and attracted more than 1 million visitors during the event. The 32 entertainment and cultural events held during the same period attracted more than 500 million viewers and a cumulative viewing time of more than 250 million hours, setting a global record for the longest viewing time in the eSports field.
In addition to this, the gaming and e-sports industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, with a global economic size of approximately $200 billion according to the latest statistics in 2023.
This success is an extension of the major events and activities hosted by the Kingdom and strengthened as a world destination under the direct authority and support of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince (May God bless him), including: special events, the Esports World Cup, and the announcement of the Esports Olympics next year (2025); which confirms its interest in developing this promising sector in order to achieve the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030 through economic diversification, strengthening tourism, providing high-level entertainment to citizens, residents and tourists, and supporting games and video games. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince (May God bless him) launched the Sports Sector Strategy on 15 AD, which focuses on creating local games on the list of the most famous international games and providing the infrastructure for the development and production of games that promote Arab and Saudi culture, within the framework of the Kingdom’s interest in the sector and its ability to attract global investors and its capabilities and results at the economic, social, cultural and entertainment levels.
