Herman Verelst (69) played the organ for the last time at the Ammerberga church in Zandhoven on Sunday
He had been an organist for no less than 55 years, from the age of 14, when his father, a sexton organist, died unexpectedly. Hermann now has a worthy successor in Daan Meere (34) from Lier. Hermann Weerst himself said that he wanted to stop working as an organist before he turned seventy. At the end of the celebration, Paul van den Hove gave a speech of thanks on behalf of the choir and the church factory. Jan Valkes also spoke on behalf of the parish. Finally, Daan Meere played a piece on the Perls organ as an introduction.
Herman Verelst received two bongo tickets and a CD as a thank you, as well as everlasting gratitude from the residents of Zandhoven.
