Tegucigalpa – Honduran infectious disease specialist Tito AlvaradoSunday pointed out that if someone seeks medical help on the first day of showing symptoms, they will not die from dengue.

He lamented that 137 Hondurans have died this year from the virus, which has plunged Honduras into a state of emergency.

However, he pointed out as an expert that no one should die from dengue if they consult a doctor on the first day of symptoms.

Any doctor can provide timely help if he arrives on time, but it is difficult if he is late.

Symptoms of dengue fever include high fever, headache and pain in other parts of the body, nausea and rash.

Symptoms may appear 4 to 10 days after infection and last 2 to 7 days; in more severe cases, this duration is longer.

Health Minister Carla Paredes confirmed on radio and television that as of epidemiological week 33, a total of 137 people have died from dengue in Honduras.

However, what worries the official most is that most of these people die within the first six hours of seeking medical help.

In this sense, he explained, the real problem is seeking medical help only when there is little that can be done. (RO)
