Severe storms knock down trees, cause power outages in Invermere

A storm moved through British Columbia’s East Kootenay region on Friday night, causing some damage to the area.

Strong winds and thunderstorms brought down trees onto power lines, causing power outages in several areas of the Invermere area.

Kinsman Beach will be closed until the damage is repaired and unsafe trees are removed.

The storm also forced the relocation of personnel from the Southern Rockies Incident Management Team fire camp in Invermere.

The British Columbia Wildfire Management Service said crews had been moved to the Columbia Valley Centre and no one was injured.

Fortunately, wildfire management said the wind did not fan the fire and firefighting operations will continue.
