Representatives of the Palestinian militant movement Hamas told mediators in consultations in Cairo that they reject US proposals to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

In addition, Hamas opposes the deployment of Israeli troops in the so-called Philadelphia corridor on the Gaza Strip’s border with Egypt and in the Nezarim corridor that separates the northern and southern parts of the enclave.

On August 15-16, Doha held negotiations aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and releasing hostages held by Hamas. A joint statement issued by Egypt, Qatar and the United States after the negotiations pointed out that the negotiations were conducted in a positive atmosphere. The two sides agreed to continue consultations in Cairo. In the new round of negotiations, the United States, with the support of Qatar and Egypt, put forward a proposal that could narrow the differences between Hamas and Israel. However, Hamas said that the US initiative only considers the interests of Israel.

Earlier, Al Jazeera quoted sources as saying that Hamas representatives will arrive in Cairo on August 24 to participate in consultations with mediators on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The Arab TV channel quoted a senior representative of the movement as saying that members of the Hamas delegation will meet with representatives of the Egyptian intelligence service, who will inform them of the results of the negotiations.
