Georgetown University in Qatar hosted a reception for new students representing the class scheduled to graduate in 2028, which includes the largest number of Qatari students since the university’s founding.
The reception coincided with the 20th anniversary of Qatar University, and was also a celebration of the 20-year partnership with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and its lasting contribution to Qatar’s education sector. It marked a new stage in the students’ academic and professional careers, and also marked a new beginning for the students to enter society.
“Our unique position within Qatar Foundation’s exceptional university incubator system enables us to attract outstanding students interested in facing global challenges and participating in our outstanding global programs in Qatar,” Joe Hernandez, the university’s assistant dean for admissions and strategic enrollment management, said in a statement.
For his part, Georgetown University President Dr. Safwan Almasry called on freshmen to seize the unique and extraordinary opportunities Georgetown University offers, noting the twentieth anniversary of Qatar University.
The freshman welcome ceremony marked the end of a week of student transition to university life, during which cultural activities and academic discussions were organized to enhance students’ sense of belonging and lay a solid foundation for their next academic journey at Georgetown.
