The Emirates Journalists Association held a memorial service for our colleague Ahmed Omar, a pioneer of children’s journalism in the UAE and founder of Majid Magazine, in the presence of Association Chairperson Fadela Al-Muaini and several other personalities. Board members, association members and journalists attended the association’s board meeting in Abu Dhabi.
Fadila Al-Muaini said: The association is holding a memorial service for the late journalist, great journalist Ahmed Omar, may God have mercy on him for his three decades of efforts in the Emirati media, he was one of the pioneers of journalism for children in the UAE and the Arab world, and the inventor of the concept of Majeed Magazine, which carries the Emirati identity, and the creator of its characters. Under his leadership, the magazine became one of the most famous and widely circulated children’s magazines in the Arab world, with an estimated readership of hundreds of thousands of children. She added: “The late Ahmed Omar created the character of Majeed. The young Emirati children expressed human values, which made him close to the hearts of children, it attracted their attention, we all grew up reading this magazine, it was and will always be a symbol that will remain in the memory of future generations”.
Reem Al-Buraiki, a member of the association’s board of directors, while delivering a eulogy for the late Ahmed Omar, recalled her childhood memories of the magazine and said she was part of the generation that loved its characters.
On the other hand, in a move of loyalty, the association held a memorial service in Dubai for the late Egyptian Saad Saeed, a former journalist for the Emirati newspaper Al-Bayan, in the presence of some members of the association’s board of directors, journalists and deceased colleagues and friends.
