General Federation of Secondary Education accuses Sarwar Abbasi of breaking the law
The General Union of Secondary Education under the UGTT has accused Minister of Education Salwa Abbasi of attempting a coup, opposing the July 2011 agreement and carrying out a serious attack on the laws, rights and freedoms of teachers.
In a press release dated August 23, 2024, the General Union of Secondary Education confirmed that the Minister of Education, Salwa Abassi, invited teachers and examiners to participate in the competition for the recruitment of directors and examiners. However, the minister chose to exclude the UGTT, the Union, its departments and the Joint Administrative Committee from the process.
The General Union of Secondary Education said it values the July 2011 agreement on the terms of recruitment of directors and examiners and abides by the minutes of the meeting of April 25, 2024. It also condemned the act, saying it undermines the foundations of the General Union of Secondary Education, the rule of law and institutions, the basis of participatory relations and the right to participate at the union level.
The General Union of Secondary Education called on teachers and examination bodies to boycott the competition and said that neither its body nor its affiliates would recognize the latter’s results.
