Police officer shot dead outside police station – ZimEye

An off-duty police officer and a taxi owner were killed in a devastating shooting outside Kagiso Police Station in the West Rand Province. The victims, a female police officer and a male taxi owner, were ambushed by assailants armed with high-calibre rifles while they were sitting in a Ford Figo.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers fled the scene in a blue car without a license plate, leaving behind a mess and chaos. The policeman sitting in the passenger seat and the taxi driver who had just been to the Kagiso District Court died on the spot due to serious injuries.

Notably, the taxi driver who was killed was one of 13 people arrested for crimes related to taxi violence in November 2023. The motive behind the shooting is still unclear and the investigation is ongoing.

“Police responded quickly to the incident, secured the area and launched an investigation into the tragic incident. The community is shocked by this senseless act of violence and the authorities should bring the perpetrators to justice.”
