Mexico City (apro) – Two-time Olympic medalist Alejandra Valencia has renewed her request that the National Sports Council (Conade) revise its operating rules, which are used to determine the amount of money athletes receive for performing well in competitions in the country.
“My message is a call for a re-writing of existing rules for awarding, amending and/or revoking scholarships for high-performance athletes. A true analysis of each athlete’s game, performance and development is required because every athlete is different and every sport is different.
“No one can do this but you Conard, as an institution, intercede for us, your athletes, in front of those who are responsible for making these tables and who do not have all the information or knowledge about the sport. Everything for the betterment of Mexican sport,” the goalkeeper wrote on X (ex Twitter).
Earlier, Valencia denounced on social networks the reduction of the sports scholarship awarded to her by Conard after the women’s team won third place in archery at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and launched a discussion on social networks.
The goalkeeper also published a video on her social networks in which she clarified that her intention was not to complain about the support received, but rather to complain about the statistical criteria that determined that her scholarship would be reduced by 20%.
“My complaint is that the form says so-and-so has your turn and so-and-so has your turn. This has to change in the future because I just arrived from Paris and they told me ‘we are on'” The three-year Central American champion, U.S. champion, world runner-up, two-time Olympic medalist and third-best archer in the world will see his scholarship reduced by 20 percent.
Likewise, Valencia explained that the information provided by Conard regarding the P7.9 million provided to her from 2019 to date refers to the training camps, competitions, logistics, concentration expenses for all archers, not just her.
“The statistics are badly done, the World Cup cannot be more valuable than the Olympics, the way each athlete’s achievements and performances are measured is wrong and it affects not only me but all the athletes who have performed well for us and represented the country.
“To the data they provided in their reply, they added in-kind support, including skills, materials, multidisciplinary teams and rewards for good results. Sometimes we earn things and then they blame us for winning? It’s not that the only thing I asked for was a reorganization of the list of rules,” he explained.

The archer received a scholarship of 46,000 pesos before the 2024 Paris Olympics for winning a silver medal at the 2023 Berlin World Championships, but, according to the Conade operating rules in Annex 4, only the most recent result, in this case the bronze medal, is considered for the scholarship.
According to the Conade table, the goalkeeper will now receive 36,000 pesos per month, like her teammates Ana Paula Vazquez and Angela Ruiz. In 2023, Conade published new rules for the operation of scholarships, in which medals in individual events in any international competition are more valuable than those in shared format.
