The number of pure electric vehicles sold by German car manufacturer BMW in the EU market in July surpassed that of American Tesla, making it the sales champion in Europe for the first time.
According to statistics from consulting firm Jato Dynamics, Tesla’s sales of pure electric vehicles in the European Union fell 16% in July to 14,561 units; BMW’s sales of pure electric vehicles in the region surged more than 33% to 14,869 units, making it the local sales champion.
Tesla still leads in annual electric vehicle sales, but its market share in Europe is being eroded by rivals such as BMW and Volvo.
Overall, the total number of newly registered electric vehicles in Europe fell 6% year-on-year to 139,300 in July.
