The dead had two Costa Rican surnames: Varela, 32, and Vargas, 22, while the Nicaraguan woman’s surname was Solis, 23.

The OIJ said the massacre took place between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. yesterday, when neighbors heard multiple explosions from large-caliber guns.

However, it was not until 6 a.m. that the Red Cross received an alert that a person had been shot in the area bordering Patarrá de Desamparados.

Meanwhile, the bodies of Varela and Solis were located inside one house, and another nearby house contained the body of Vargas, whose body was taken to the medical examiner.

The motive for the crime is still unclear. According to unofficial sources, one of the gunmen was apparently wearing a bulletproof vest.
