Pekonen represents the Hamm constituency in parliament.
Prior to being appointed chairman, Pekonen was deputy chairman of the party’s parliamentary group. He has been an MP since 2011 and was Minister of Social Affairs and Health during the last election. He also served as chairman of the parliamentary group between 2015 and 2019.
The Left Alliance parliamentary group elected the first MP for Turku as first deputy chairman Timo FruhominThe native of Kuopio will continue to serve as the second vice-chairman of the parliamentary group Laura Meliloto.
