Franolic Huanca, manager of the Cochabamba Andean Regional Municipalities Consortium, reported that five dams are expected to be built in his region by 2024.
“After all these years we have never completed the studies and now three dams have feasibility reports and two more are in the process of doing feasibility reports. This means this government will start five dams at the investment stage.”
He explained that the investment would exceed 60 million bolivianos, adding that the municipal sector would account for 20%.
“It means we are making progress in numbers.”
Wanka said they are also preparing technical irrigation projects. Some have been fully implemented.
“We will be delivering some this September.”
Construction of the reservoir will take between one to one and a half years.
“This means that, after all these years, by 2026 we will have the first dam operating in the Andes.”
They plan to build these water sources in the municipalities of Alque, Tapacari, Bolivar, Tacopaya and Cocapata.
The manager of the Andean Regional Municipal Association said the implementation of these projects will benefit more than 400 families.
