A former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kola Ologbondiyan, has said there will be no reconciliation until the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, returns to the position of Deputy National Chairman.
The PDP leader added that the solution can only be in the opposition’s favour if it is fair.
Ologbondiyan, who spoke to DAILY TRUST on Thursday, said the right thing to do was to reinstate the acting chairman and allow the North Central Alliance to elect a national chairman, while also appearing at the Oyinlola committee to mediate between members of the party.
Ologbondiyan said: “The reconciliation committee led by former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola must be courageous enough to tell Damagum that his position is the deputy national chairman of the party in the north and no one is saying he must be removed from the position.
“But there can only be reconciliation and for reconciliation to last, there must be justice and that justice is to allow the North Central Zone to elect the successor of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.
“Reconciliation is a welcome development but it has to start from the office of the national chairman because you can’t say you want reconciliation and then go after your so-called enemies. When you talk about reconciliation. It means he himself needs to reconcile.”
Speaking on the rift between Governor Fubala of Rivers State and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, Ologbondiyan accused Damagon of taking sides.
He said: “At the inauguration, he hinted at his so-called enemies, so he needs to reconcile. But please note that he is supposed to be the leader of the party and should not take sides on any issue, but unfortunately, he said that no one can intimidate him, which means he has so-called enemies.
“If the party of which he is the acting president has been saying that those who quit the party have vacated the seats and the president and secretary wrote to the court to choose sides between two party members. This means he has already chosen sides.”
