JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto left for Jordan on Sunday evening to represent Indonesia at the Special Summit on Gaza scheduled to be held in Amman on Tuesday.
The conference, entitled “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Assistance for Gaza”, was initiated by King Abdullah II of Jordan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Brigadier General Edwin Adrian Sumanta, a public relations officer at the Ministry of Defence, said on Monday that heads of state attending the summit are expected to find ways to strengthen responses to the humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian territories.
“The presence of Indonesian government representatives at the summit is expected to make a real contribution to joint efforts to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Gaza,” said Edwin, who accompanied Prabowo on his visit to Amman.
Prabowo will also meet his long-time friend King Abdullah II.

As previously announced, Prabowo intends to make full use of the summit to provide assistance such as Indonesia’s peacekeeping troops, field hospitals and medical professionals, as well as support for the evacuation of victims.
“I will coordinate with the UN secretary-general and national leaders in the region so that Indonesia can provide assistance,” he said in Jakarta on Friday.
Prabowo stressed Indonesia’s unwavering position to resolve the Gaza conflict through ceasefire and negotiations.
“Indonesia also firmly supports Palestinian independence, a two-state solution and all efforts towards an immediate ceasefire,” he stressed.
Several countries were also represented at the Jordan summit, including Australia, which sent its Minister for Early Childhood Education, Anne Aly, to attend the high-level meeting.
Pope Francis also expressed his support for the summit, calling it “an important initiative” by King Abdullah II, Sisi and Guterres.
