The American company “Populousé”, which specializes in the construction of sports stadiums, has released new photos of the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca, confirming that the stadium will become the largest in the world in the coming years as part of the Kingdom’s preparations to host the 2020 World Cup and the 2030 World Cup finals in partnership with Spain and Portugal.
The above-mentioned company reported through its official website that the stadium, which can accommodate about 115,000 spectators, was built in cooperation with the architects “Oualalou + Choi” in the French capital Paris.
The same source said the stadium will be built on a 100-hectare site in the Mansouriya region of Ben Suliman governorate, 38 kilometers north of Casablanca.
The Hassan II Stadium has a unique design
The shape of the stadium is inspired by the “seasons”, traditional social gatherings in Morocco. The stadium structure is housed under a huge tented roof, forming a dramatic intervention into the forest landscape at either end of the massive stadium. Composed of three compact and steeply pitched levels, the stadium creates a vibrant and stunning atmosphere and can accommodate 29,500 spectators.
The “Tents” or each of the main stands along one side of the stadium is covered by 5 levels of hospitality and can accommodate 12,000 VIPs, hospitality staff and cabin users in addition to the Royal Cabin.
Playground cover
The stadium is covered with a stunning roof made of a unique aluminium mesh, the geometry of the roof and bowl supports 32 staircases. This creates a huge gateway with lush gardens located on elevated platforms, each 28 metres above the ground.
The gardens generate an extraordinary spatial experience, an effect enhanced by a green oasis beneath the translucent roof shell and a series of ground-level botanical gardens beneath the outer edge of the stadium that will be fully compatible with FIFA matches. Morocco has been selected, along with Spain and Portugal, to host the 2030 World Cup final.
It will also serve as the home ground for two local clubs and is preparing to start preparations for a 100-hectare site in the Mansouria district of Bensliema province in October 2023, following approval of public financing.

The spokesperson noted that “Casablanca’s Hassan II Grand Stadium is a spacious space open to the world, respectful of the natural environment it protects, and embodies the great tradition of Moroccan hospitality.”
In turn, François Clément, senior director and president of Populous France and main architect of the project, stressed: “The Stade Hassan II will offer an exceptional space to create an extraordinary experience for every fan and every visitor, in line with King Mohammed VI’s vision to develop Moroccan football infrastructure. “This will put Morocco at the highest global platform for the development of sports infrastructure. “
