DUBAI, 22nd August, 2024 (WAM) — Dubai Charity Society has provided emergency relief assistance, including food parcels, a medical convoy for malaria treatment and building huts, to people affected by floods caused by heavy rains in Mali and Niger.
The aid reached affected families in the town of Bula, in the Ségou region of Mali, and in the village of Shente-Berding, in Tawa state of Niger.
Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of Dubai Charity, said: “The various charity projects and relief operations carried out by Dubai Charity are born out of its belief in providing necessary support to brotherly and friendly people in times of distress; emulating our wise leadership, which is appreciated and respected by the people, for whom the UAE has become a symbol of true friendship and humanitarian donations.”
He said the association launched an operation to provide emergency relief supplies to the affected people in the Republic of Mali, including (500) food baskets containing rice, pasta, oil, milk and sugar, which benefited about (2,500) people in the affected city of Bara. These food baskets will provide basic food for the affected families so that they can live a decent life and achieve self-sufficiency for one month. In Niger, (515) food baskets were distributed to (2,575) people in Shentberdine, Tawa State, and (50) huts were built for (50) families to provide shelter.
Suwaidi noted that the aid package also includes therapeutic relief, namely the dispatch of medical convoys for four consecutive days to treat malaria and distribute health supplies, benefiting people in Mali (300) and Niger (145), in addition to treating typhoid, influenza, fever of unknown cause, vitamin deficiencies and various diseases among children.
The beneficiary families expressed their sincere gratitude to the UAE and Dubai charities for their support and help.
