Hodeidah Justice and Peace Forum condemns Houthi refusal to provide relief to flood-affected people
Hashnet:
The Hodeidah Forum for Justice and Peace condemns in the strongest terms the systematic human rights violations and crimes against humanity committed by the terrorist Houthi militias, the latest of which is the rejection of the initiative of the Humanitarian Action Group of the National Resistance Movement to rescue people hit by heavy rains in the areas under its control through the United Nations.
A statement from the forum stressed that the militia is using the humanitarian crisis as a weapon of war, deliberately starving people to thirst and hunger and depriving them of their most basic right to life, in a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
He stressed that the Houthi militia’s insistence on obstructing rescue efforts and rejecting UN initiatives are the main reasons for the worsening humanitarian disaster in Hodeidah.
The statement urgently calls on the international community, the United Nations and all humanitarian organizations to exert maximum pressure on the Houthi militia to stop their serious violations and ensure unimpeded humanitarian access to all people in need in Yemen.
Statement text:
The Hodeidah Forum for Justice and Peace condemns in the strongest terms the racist and inhumane practices of the Houthi militias, which are deliberately preventing humanitarian aid from reaching people affected by the floods in the Tihama region. The Houthis are exploiting the humanitarian crisis for narrow political gains, without regard for the human suffering experienced by the inhabitants of these areas, in a blatant violation of all moral and religious principles that call for relief to the suffering and assistance to those in need.
The Forum notes with great concern that the Houthi militias have refused to accept the initiative of the United Nations-monitored humanitarian team to provide assistance to the affected residents of Hodeidah governorate, despite the severity of their suffering, which has been doubled by the devastating floods. At a time when this disaster requires urgent attention and an immediate response to alleviate the suffering of citizens, we find that the Houthis are determined to sabotage relief efforts, exacerbating the severity of the humanitarian disaster.
“Any group or ruling power has a moral responsibility to put the interests and needs of citizens above any other considerations. However, the Houthi militias continue to be intransigent in this area, pursuing a policy of starvation and abuse by cutting wages and mistreating the population. In view of the clear failure of the United Nations and the international community to prevent the arrival of aid, it was decided to take a firm stand to protect the residents of Hodeidah.”
Despite international agreements such as the Stockholm Agreement, the Houthis continue to reject recommendations from humanitarian teams to provide relief to disaster victims under UN supervision, demonstrating that the group is using these agreements to increase its control over the areas it controls, without regard for the difficult humanitarian situation suffered by the citizens.
In this context, the Hodeidah Forum for Justice and Peace calls on the international community, the United Nations and all humanitarian organizations to exert real pressure on the Houthi militia to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches the affected families in Hodeidah and to provide immediate assistance to the affected population. It also holds the Iranian-backed group accountable for its ongoing human rights violations and failure to abide by its moral and legal responsibilities towards civilians.
Finally, the Forum calls on all nations and tribesmen to unite in the face of these destructive Houthi policies and to work together to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those who deserve it and alleviates the suffering of the people of Tihama. Staying silent in the face of these crimes is seen as complicity with injustice and everyone must take action to stop this disregard for human life. I swear there is no intention behind this. #They_prevent_the_help
