State-of-the-art hospitals are a motivation for doctors, especially in Central Bohemia, who might prefer a workplace in Prague. The Rudolf and Stephanie Regional Hospital in Benešov has spent more than 1.2 billion crowns in recent years on equipment and building modernization. In May, it completed a central entrance pavilion with a reception and a new surgical inpatient ward, and is the only one in the region with a helipad for rescue helicopters. The quality of healthcare in the Czech Republic is very high and robust internationally, but the system must also be sustainable in the long term, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala (ODS) stressed today during his visit to the Benešov Hospital.
“When it’s a well-thought-out system and well-cared-for by the founders and the individual participants, everything works well.” Fiala said, pointing out the role of specialist hospitals, regional hospitals and smaller hospitals. “In the future, we also have to think about how to ensure the effectiveness of the system so that companies can finance it in the coming years as well.” Fiala added.
Lack of staff
Hejtmanča’s deputy health officer Pavol Pavlík (ODS) told reporters that the region is facing a shortage of hospital staff, similar to other regions. However, he said the situation in Central Bohemia is special because it is located around Prague, where there are top teaching hospitals and doctors can be given priority. “I saw a great example of how to provide work subsidies for the staff of the Benesov Hospital,” Pavlik said. The doctors who will serve in it will have the opportunity to work in a modern workplace, which, according to him, is comparable to those in Prague.
Benesov Hospital is one of five hospitals in the Central Bohemian Region. The Central Revenue Project is one of the largest investment actions in the health sector in the Central Bohemian Region in recent years and is financed by a loan from the European Investment Bank. The total cost of building the central reception and expanding the operating hall in several stages was 578 million crowns. As of this year, the hospital has a new MRI unit and an officially certified heliport for rescue helicopters.
The Benešovská Hospital has a catchment area of 120,000 inhabitants, and during the tourist season this number reaches 250,000. It provides care for patients from Sedlčany, in and around the Benešovsko and Příbram districts, as well as from the Praha-východ, Praha-západ and Tábor regions. The hospital has nearly 340 acute beds and nearly 100 nursing beds.
