As part of the tradition of celebrating Black Breastfeeding Week and World Breastfeeding Month, the Safe Infant Feeding (ASI) and Ethnic Magazineinvites you to its Fair and Tetada on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Parque Lineal del Río Bayamón, in La Cambija.
“This year, the Governor has once again proclaimed Black Breastfeeding Week. The slogan for the celebration is Hear us out! Reflect on our history and uncover our experiences with breastfeeding justice. This event aims to recognize, share and promote our experiences as a community in the search for equity and recognition of human breastfeeding as a life-saving measure,” explains coordinator Miliana Montañez.
The event, which will be held in Bayamon, will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run until noon. It will include educational talks and exhibitions with local artisans and merchants.
“We invite all Puerto Rican families and residents of Puerto Rico, regardless of race and origin, to attend Tetada at 9:00 a.m. as a special part of the week and offer our support to the Black community in Puerto Rico. We specifically invite Black families to share their experiences, take photos and make statements in favor of maternal, paternal and child health in marginalized communities,” the spokesperson added.

ASI (Safe Infant Feeding) is the largest community organization supporting breastfeeding and safe infant feeding in Puerto Rico. Its wide range of services includes thousands of days of direct services, companionship, consultation, clinical management, education, training and certification, with a focus on justice and community work.
Ethnic Magazine is a social movement and multimedia platform created to raise visibility, amplify voices, and positively represent the Black community.
