Letter: An open letter to the Rarotonga thieves

Dear Editor, This is actually an open letter to the person who has been responsible for stealing our and many other properties in the Avarua area over the last few months (although he probably hasn’t read it and therefore won’t see it).

However, this information may be useful to others: Keep an eye out for a newly injured slob in your neighborhood. Is he the second person to try to burgle in a month, because whoever he is, he has inflicted serious injuries on himself and left blood all over our balcony and lawn.

It was so bad, in fact, that he didn’t even enter the building this time.

But he did cause a lot of damage. Gone are our gorgeous French doors that were installed with the original building 60 years ago. We are a resource-poor nonprofit and can barely afford to continue repairing the damage this man has done to our property in order to steal.

Tell you what, from now on we will leave the front door open every weekend so he can come in without destroying anything. This will save us money on repairing the damage he causes.

However, please note Mr. Thief, we no longer keep power tools, money, food or alcohol on our premises, and we haven’t done so since the last theft, so this may be a wasted trip.

We do have a lot of books though, and you’re welcome to read them. Feel free to read them. You might learn something, like how to get a job and make money to get what you want.
