Dam Press:
Today, the elected People’s Assembly began work on the opening ceremony of the first extraordinary session of its fourth legislative term, led by its oldest member, Mohammed Khair Diab Al-Mahj, dedicated to administering the constitutional oath to members of the Council and electing the Council’s President and members of the Bureau.
In accordance with Article 10, paragraph 1 of the Council’s Statutes, the elected Council held its first meeting under the chairmanship of Al-Mashi, with the youngest members, Abdel Latif Daboura and Afif Dallo, acting as secretariat, and then the President selected two observers from among the remaining members present at the meeting, namely Haifa Jumaa and Khaled Kerbaj. Please note that when the President and members of the Bureau of the Council are elected, the mission of each of them will end with the election of their successor.
Accordingly, the President of the Senate “Al-Mashi” declared the meeting open, and then the Secretaries Deborah and Dalo read out Decree No. (194) of 2024, which includes the list of those who have obtained the qualifications for the People’s Assembly. The President of the Senate read out the constitutional oath for the first time today, as stipulated in Article 7 of the Constitution, and called for the convening of the People’s Assembly for the fourth legislative term in accordance with Decree No. (204) of 2024. Then the members were invited to take the oath on the podium one by one, and the oath began.
In his speech, President Shin Mahi affirmed that the 4th Legislative Session of the People’s Assembly is the highest achievement of fair elections conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Electoral Judicial Council and in an atmosphere of free competition, and reflects the awareness of our people and their commitment to the instructions of President Bashar al-Assad.
Machi congratulated the members of the Security Council for having earned the trust of the people who elected them to represent them on the Council, stressing their willingness to make the most precious sacrifice to protect and defend their motherland and to work with all their might to realize the aspirations of their people.
The opening session, attended by Ahmed Bustaji, Minister of State for People’s Assembly Affairs, was suspended until 11 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday) to complete the constitutional oath of all deputies and the elections of the President and the Presidency of the Council.
It is worth noting that the People’s Assembly holds three ordinary sessions a year, the dates of which are specified in Article 7 of its Statutes. If the date of the convocation of the elected Assembly coincides with the date of any of these sessions, the Assembly begins. Its work is carried out after the elected members have taken the oath of office, but if the date of the convocation of the elected members does not coincide with any of them, the meeting of the Council convened at the invitation of the President of the Republic is considered one. The Council holds special sessions and the Council works on the dates of its ordinary sessions.
