The Culture Ministry has denied interfering in programming following controversy over the exclusion of artists from the festival.

An official source at the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communications has broken his silence in response to the accusations levelled against the latter for excluding a group of Moroccan artists from participating in the art demonstration, after the issue sparked controversy in the last few days on social media platforms.

The same source revealed in a statement to Hespress that the ministry responsible for the cultural sector does not support all Moroccan festivals. Including the Beach Festival, organized by a Moroccan telecommunications company, because it falls within the framework of self- and private regulation.

The official also said that when the Ministry of Culture supports the festival, it does not interfere with the programming therein; because they are demonstrations organized by supported associations, they have no right to impose the names of those present.

The speaker stressed that the Ministry of Guardianship itself organizes some art festivals, similar to the “Rapafrica” ​​festival and “Lache Summer”, with no more than four demonstrations per year, explaining that the programming of the latter is supervised by the Ministry, with a rotation criterion that does not repeat the same sides; in order to have a diverse guest list, we are keen to ensure the presence of the largest proportion of Moroccan artists.

Hespress sources stressed that although the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communications supports the national demonstrations, it cannot interfere in the organization of these events. Because it supports cultural mobility, artistic life and creative industries, it does not have the power to include certain names or remove others.

The Moroccan art world has recently witnessed a wave of discontent and condemnation from some Moroccan artists who say they have been repeatedly excluded from summer art festivals hosted by some Moroccan cities, in a country known for its intense artistic activity.

These artists are unhappy with the clear preference for certain artistic names at the expense of others. This creates a kind of monopoly on demonstrations across the country and promotes the repetition of the same faces on the platforms of various festivals, while some singers wait for the phone to ring so that they can be called to celebrate one of the evenings and fight the unemployment they are experiencing.
