Jakarta(ANTARA) –
The Indonesian National Sports Council (KONI) and the Ministry of Communications and Information (Kominfo) have stepped up their cooperation to spread information about the Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) throughout the country.
“We want to make the Aceh-North Sumatra PON event the biggest multi-sport event that can be felt by all sectors of Indonesian society. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Ma’ruf Amin will attend the event at the end of their terms,” KONI Chairman Marciano Norman said here on Wednesday.
Norman held a meeting with Minister of Communications and Information Budi Arie Setiadi and other Kominfo officials to balance views on the event and strengthen commitment to make PON a success.
This year, PON will be held in two provinces, Aceh and North Sumatra, for the first time.
This PON will be a highly strategic event as it will serve as a farewell to the leadership of Jokowi and Amin and could be a way to unite the people in the midst of the political year.

The Aceh PON Games will cover 33 sports, with a total of 6,287 athletes and 3,158 officials participating.
Meanwhile, the North Sumatra PON will feature 34 games with a total of 6,618 athletes and 3,320 officials.
There will be a total of 1,042 matches, which will be held in 10 regions/cities in Aceh and North Sumatra.
During the meeting, Norman requested support from Kominfo to meet telecommunication network needs.
In response to the request, Minister Setiadi assigned personnel from his department to assist in the preparation of the network and media centre.
