This summer, inspectors found violations in 62% of inspections.

The State Inspectorate has been carrying out control tasks all summer, and they recently published the results of their controls during the first half of this year’s tourist season. Between June 3 and August 4, they conducted 2,239 inspections across the country. Of the total number of inspections, no violations were found in 838, which is 37.4% of all inspections. In 62.6% (1,401 inspections), the inspections found a total of 2,572 violations of various types. When you compare this year with last, you can see that fewer and fewer people are following the rules in 2024. More specifically, the State Inspectorate told us that during the 2023 tourist season, 44.1% of operations were in compliance with the regulations during coordinated inspections.

801 was fined

In 22.3% of the violations, inspectors applied the opportunity principle, meaning they were able to correct the detected violations within the stipulated time, while for the remaining violations, they filed 76 indictments to initiate misdemeanor prosecutions, 191 misdemeanor orders, 13 forfeitures of illegally obtained property benefits, and imposed 801 fines.

The National Inspectorate (DI) tells us: “Inspectors of the National Inspectorate issued 801 fines for a total of €188,426.98 at the locations of offences, according to the legal authorities. The most common violation, noted by the tourism inspectors, was the failure to adequately meet the minimum prescribed conditions regarding the decoration and equipment of the facilities. Tourism inspectors also carried out 403 inspections against illegal landlords. A total of 339 inspections were carried out based on reports received regarding unregistered catering services in homes, and 58 inspections were carried out based on reports received from the Tourism Directorate (TZ).

Rovinj, Crikvenica…

The Rijeka Regional Office received the highest number of TZ applications, followed by the Split Regional Office, both covering a large area, with the DI citing the tourist communities of Rovinj, Crikvenica, Malinska, Vodice and Biograd na Moru as examples. 134 violations were found during the inspections, 31 verbal decisions prohibiting the provision of household services without registration and 36 verbal decisions prohibiting the advertising of services to households without registration.

This summer, through early August, health inspectors conducted 53 inspections of swimming pools and initiated five misdemeanor prosecutions, including three misdemeanor prosecutions against facilities that used swimming pools as part of hotel or campground accommodations and two misdemeanor prosecutions for violations of use of swimming pools as part of a public swimming pool.
