The Judo Junior World Cup will be held in La Vedena from September 28 to 1

The city of Lima will become the world centre of judo through the World Championships in Lima 2024, where young participants (U-18 category, 15 to 17 years old) will compete for glory. The event will be held at the VIDENA Sports Centre 1 from September 28 to 1.

The event will see the participation of nearly 500 judokas from 50 countries on 4 continents and confirms the excellent management of the Peruvian Judo Sports Federation, led by sensei Maria Martínez, which has successfully organized the Pan American and South American Games in various categories.

“We have been working for quite some time to offer a great sporting event to all the athletes and delegations that will visit us at this World Cup in the Cadet Category. We are sure that it will be a great event,” said Maria Martínez.

Peru will send a men’s and women’s judo team, consisting of 25 judokas in total. The men’s team is composed of Santiago León and Daniel Castillo (-50 kg); Jack Uraco (-55 kg), Santiago Laureano and Gabriel Herrera (-60 kg); Daniel Sandoval and José Luis Matos (-66 kg); José Villanueva and Sebastián Flores (-73 kg); Marc Rodríguez (-81 kg); and Marco Tirado, Jhon Collazos and Gercy Cabrera (-90 kg).

The women’s team is composed of Ashlee López (-40 kg), Yaelia Mantilla (-44 kg), Milagros Arévalo and Patricia León (-48 kg); Angie Estrada and Sophia Donayre (-52 kg); Johana Valdiviezo and Leticia Saavedra (-57 kg); Bianca Hervias and Ariana Turkowsky (-63 kg); Zoila Nevado and Eloisa Arevalo (-70 kg).

The competition will be run as follows, with prizes awarded daily:

August 28: Women’s -40kg, -44kg, Men’s -50kg, -55kg competitions
August 29: Women’s -48kg, -52kg, Men’s -60kg, -66kg competitions
August 30: Women’s -57kg, -63kg, Men’s -73kg, -81kg competitions
August 31: Women’s -70kg, +70kg competitions, men’s -90kg, +90kg competitions
September 1: Mixed team competition
