The much-anticipated 2024 “Taiwanese Cuisine International Tour” hosted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission of the Republic of China, Chefs Aju and Xu Jianyu arrived in the beautiful Pacific island of Palau on August 17. They were warmly welcomed by Minister Chen Fulin of the Embassy and President Li Sam of the Palau Taiwan Chamber of Commerce. The Palau Royal Resort, where the two chefs stayed, is a famous hotel invested by Taiwanese businessmen. The trip included a gourmet dinner at the Palau Royal Resort and two days of cooking demonstrations and food tastings at the Amayon Cultural Center on Koror Island.

The food feast officially started at 6pm on August 18th. Ambassador Li, Minister Chen and his wife and embassy colleagues warmly welcomed the guests, including Palau dignitaries, Taiwanese business representatives attending the trade fair, members of the Palau Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, representatives of the Palau Chamber of Commerce, etc. The atmosphere was lively and lively. Guests included Vice President Uduki Sengpao Senior, Speaker of the House of Representatives Sabino Anastasio, Minister of State Gustav Etalo, Minister of Tourism Njilay Temetuher, Billon, Senator, Chairman of the Association of State Speakers, Attorney General, Director of the Palau Administration, etc.
Ambassador Lee said in her speech that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Palau, and the 30th anniversary of Palau’s independence. The Embassy and the Palau Taiwan Chamber of Commerce have worked together to plan a joint exhibition of “Cuisine” and “Culture and Trade” to celebrate this important milestone. She also thanked the Chamber of Commerce and the Palau Royal Resort for their support throughout the process from food procurement to banquet preparation and plating, which was impressive. As a food lover and cooking enthusiast, Ambassador Lee introduced Taiwan’s national dish “beef noodles”, detailing its history, flavor, and soup base, which made the guests present unable to stop.
The Vice President and Minister of State expressed his gratitude for this year’s food festival, which has added luster to the 25th anniversary of Taiwan-Palau friendship and the 30th anniversary of Palau’s independence. Just like the fame and deliciousness of the food, it testifies to the solid and lasting relationship between Taiwan and Palau.
The highlight of the evening was when Ambassador Li introduced Aju and Chef Xu, and took photos with the guests, winning cheers and praise. The chefs’ superb cooking skills and charming personalities won the love of the guests.
The dinner ended successfully with a lively group photo, leaving the guests present with endless aftertastes. Thanks to the two chefs and all the participants for allowing everyone to cheer for the motherland through the food exhibition in Palau, the home away from home for Taiwanese.
In conjunction with the trade show, cooking demonstrations and food tastings held at the Amayon Cultural Center over the next few days were a huge success. Hundreds of visitors attended the trade show and food tastings, witnessing how food not only connects the people of Palau and Taiwan, but is also part of the great history of diversity and resilience in Taiwan-Palau relations.
