Exhibition organized by the Rotary Club of Milan at Palazzo Morando

Milan 100. A century of history and society through the presence of Rotary, a historical documentary exhibition organized at Palazzo Morando in partnership with the City of Milan, celebrating the centenary of the Rotary Club of Milan, the oldest in Italy.

The exhibition takes a close look at Rotary’s 100 years of distinctive personality, bold initiatives and memorable historical events, while telling the story of Milan’s dynamic evolution.

The Lombard city has gone through times of change, growth, challenge and rebirth, just like Rotary, always with an eye to the future. The exhibition itinerary offers a wealth of images, artworks and unpublished material from the club’s archives, preserved at the Milan Archive, with the participation of iconic institutions such as the Cancer Institute, the Pirelli skyscraper and the Milan motorway. The Sun.

The main paintings on display come from the archives of the Palazzo Morando Museum and illustrate the changes in Milan from a stylistic, social, urban and landscape perspective. They are works by Milanese and non-Milanese artists, spanning a long period, and offer the opportunity to admire paintings that are usually kept in the vaults of this institution, which aims to preserve the artistic heritage linked to the city of Milan.

From an artistic point of view, the crown jewels of the exhibition are a pair of sculptures by Francesco Messina, from the Studio Museum that bears his name. The exhibition is just one of the activities planned by the Rotary Club of Milan to celebrate its centenary in 2023.

From the ballet performance at La Scala last February with the participation of Roberto Bolle, one of the most acclaimed stars of contemporary ballet, to the monumental installation created through a competition among young artists who have just graduated and graduated from the School of Sculpture of the Brera Accademia: this will be the subject of a specific event that will be organized next November in the “Cortile della Magnolia” of the Accademia.

and the restoration of Napoleon’s throne, which will become an important reference point for the reorganization of the neoclassical apartments of the Royal Palace after its exhibition at Palazzo Morando. The exhibition at Palazzo Morando is open to the public free of charge from October 27, 2023 to January 7, 2024.

The exhibition was curated by art historian Stefano Zuffi, in collaboration with Milanese gallery owner Lorenza Salamon. The installation was entrusted to the creative skills of architect Francesca Aletti.
