– We had momentum, were 2-0 up and had changed new players. Some wanted to step up, some wanted to stay. New faces are like that. At the same time, we became a bit passive defensively. It’s natural that when you’re 2-0 up and feel you have the upper hand, they attack us,” Zinckernagel told VG.
VG asked Knutson if he should wait five or ten minutes to make the change.
– It’s always like this. We also have to look at the total load of Brunstad Fet and Isak. I think it’s more than just the switch. “I think we didn’t handle the opponent well enough,” replied coach Glimt.
The players had different opinions on why Red Star took the initiative after the 2-0 score.
– It’s hard to say. It’s probably a bit like football psychology. We have to learn from it, Glimt stopper Jostein Gundersen told VG.
– Good question. We became a little imprecise and started to take on all the counterattacks. “We stressed our own game unnecessarily,” said Patrick Berg.
– The game would be very open and we would lose the ball easily. At the same time, they pushed higher. This way our bodies would be stretched, says Odin Bjørtuft.
Tuesday’s game is the first of two playoff games. The overall winner will advance to the Champions League group stage. The second leg will be played a week later on Wednesday in Belgrade.
