Doha News (QGN) – A subsidiary of Mediterranean Infrastructure Holdings is in talks with two major Gulf cities in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The project involves energy efficiency and sustainability in the cities, including energy intelligence and smart city applications for water, electricity and power performance.
LINE (Saudi Arabia’s New Future City) is a cognitive city that stretches across 170 kilometers, from the majestic mountains of NEOM to the inspiring desert valleys to the beautiful Red Sea. This mirrored architectural masterpiece towers 500 meters above sea level, but is only 200 meters wide, saving land. LINE redefines the concept of urban development and what the cities of the future will look like. There will be no roads, cars or emissions, 100% renewable energy will be used, and 95% of the land will be reserved for nature. Unlike traditional cities, people’s health and well-being will take precedence over transportation and infrastructure.

LINE will eventually accommodate 9 million people, covering an area of just 34 square kilometers. This means less space for infrastructure and an unprecedented level of urban function efficiency. An ideal year-round climate will ensure residents can enjoy the surrounding nature. Residents will also have access to all daily necessities within a five-minute walk, and with high-speed rail available – end-to-end travel will take just 20 minutes.
Lusail is the second largest city in Qatar after Doha and is the economic capital of Qatar. It is located in the coastal area, south of the city of Al Daayen. Lusail is located approximately 23 kilometers north of downtown Doha, covers more than 38 square kilometers (15 square miles), and will eventually have infrastructure to accommodate 450,000 people. Of these 450,000 people, 250,000 or fewer residents, 190,000 office workers, and 60,000 retail workers are expected to be built. There are plans to build a marina, residential areas, island resorts, commercial areas, luxury shopping and leisure facilities, a golf course community, artificial islands, and multiple entertainment areas.

Construction is still ongoing. The development is being led by state-owned developer Qatari Diar. In addition, Lusail Stadium is one of the venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, hosting the final, and is also home to the Formula 1 racetrack, where the inaugural Qatar Grand Prix will take place in 2021. The first phase of Lusail City is already complete. Phase 2 (100% residential construction complete) is expected to be completed in April 2026.
