After the preliminary review and the semi-finals in July, 27 teams stood out from 1,172 entries and won tickets to the finals. On the day of the finals, the Science Park was crowded with participants and spectators, and the atmosphere was quite lively.

The competition invited eight representatives from the government, innovation and technology, and academia, as well as experts in the two major topics, to form the judging panel. In addition to the 27 finalists presenting their innovation and technology solutions on stage, other shortlisted contestants also demonstrated their solution prototypes and practical applications of technology on site, allowing the audience to experience the infinite charm of technology firsthand. In addition, there were also interesting technology experience projects such as mechanical baristas for guests to experience.

Innovative technology opens up infinite possibilities

The theme of this year’s competition is “Hong Kong has a plan”. Participants provide innovative solutions on two topics: “Mountain People Have a Plan” (improving the operation and management of country parks and camping sites and hikers’ natural experience) and “Helping People Have a Plan” (enhancing support for caregivers). The competition is divided into four categories: open group, university/college group, secondary school group and primary school group, attracting nearly 2,500 local and non-local participants, who participated as individuals or teams.

A group of primary and secondary school students performed outstandingly, using all their skills on stage to introduce their creative proposals to the jury, and received warm applause from the audience.

After fierce competition, the winning teams in each group were successfully selected. The winning teams in the open group and university/college group will receive up to HK$1 million in R&D resources and training to further optimize their innovative technology solutions and conduct trial runs in specific pilot projects such as government departments or public institutions.

In his speech, Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, said that this event is not only a competition, but also a great opportunity to promote science popularization and discover and cultivate innovative talents. Hong Kong is now making every effort to become an international innovation and technology center, and talents are the core of innovation and technology development, because “people have ideas.” He highly praised the contestants’ enthusiasm in the field of innovation and technology and their care for the community, and hoped that they would continue to keep “full of ideas” and actively “think and plan” for the development of Hong Kong’s innovation and technology.
