The Ministry of Finance decided to establish a regional customs office in the city of Hama, called the “Hama Customs Office”, in accordance with the current laws and the proposal of the General Customs Authority.
The above-mentioned Directorate exercises all the powers and authorities vested in the Regional Customs Directorate, to which the Hama Customs Secretariat and the Governorate Customs Police are subordinate.
According to the decision, the Hama Customs Secretariat was renamed the “Hama Central Customs Secretariat” and the Hama Customs General Administration established a main secretariat with financial and accounting powers.
In a statement to SANA, the General Customs Administration explained that the General Customs Administration in Homs was previously coordinating and following up with the National Case Management Office in Hama on all customs cases and files heard by the Customs Court in Hama Governorate, noting that about half of these cases and files were cases investigated within the Hama governorate.
The Directorate stated that the presence of a female customs officer in Hama Governorate indicated the breadth of the governorate’s geographical area and the need for a dedicated regional customs directorate to directly follow up on cases investigated by the officer in order to improve the performance of its anti-smuggling mandate and follow up on cases pending in the customs court.
The directorate stated that all of the above-mentioned situations necessitated the establishment of a regional customs directorate in Hama, with the aim of revitalizing the work of the governorate’s customs secretariat in the field of imports and exports, facilitating the completion of customs transactions for industrialists and businessmen within the Hama Customs Directorate, and assisting the staff of the above-mentioned directorate in following up customs cases within the scope of the Hama Customs Court to ensure that the work is completed expeditiously.
