Tegucigalpa – Another 50,000 suspected coca bushes were seized in the northern Honduran province of Colón, and a laboratory used to store chemical precursors and extract cocaine paste was discovered.

According to the order, the tactical team of the National Drug Police (DNPA), with the support of the National Directorate of Special Forces (DNFE-COE) and in coordination with the Office of the Special Prosecutor against Organized Crime in San Pedro Sula, arrived at the location and confiscated a large amount of illegal crops and a rural laboratory in the Atlantic region of the country.

The operation was carried out within the framework of the third phase of the anti-crime solution in the mountainous area of the village of El Lavaderito, in the municipality of Colón Limón.

Through investigative work, it was possible to locate and obtain an illicit crop consisting of 50,000 plants suspected to be coca leaves, with an average height of one and a half metres, and they are adult plants, which are therefore presumably used for the extraction of their alkaloids.

Likewise, near the plantation, there is a rural building under construction that will presumably be used to store chemical precursors and extract cocaine paste.

At the scene, samples of the bushes were sent to the forensic doctors, who, through their respective analyses, determined that they were coca bushes and subsequently coordinated the eradication and complete burning of the crops and the destruction of the village laboratory.

The National Police once again calls on citizens to cooperate and report drug-related activities by calling 9579-4041.
