Nutritionist Mihaela Bilic abolished the American habit of starting the day with a fruit smoothie. Recently invited to the podcast of Marian Drăghici, Bilic declared: “God forbid! Why start like this?! After eating meatloaf, my stomach is happy, there is no acidity!”

The famous nutritionist explains that fruits, while healthy, contain water and fructose, which stimulate appetite and lead to fat accumulation. “Fruits are appetizing because they contain fructose water. Once we find them, we have to eat more and more,” she adds, noting that this natural instinct to accumulate fat is similar to the behavior of bears to gain weight before hibernation. Bilic points out that he gave up overeating cherries after personally experiencing gastritis, noting that cherries now make him feel unwell: “After 50 years, I got gastritis and suddenly I can’t eat cherries anymore.” Instead, the nutritionist recommends apricots and peaches as the ideal fruits for summer. “They are orange, aromatic and juicy. They are friendly to digestion and figure. This is about apricots and peaches,” Bilic says, explaining that these fruits are rich in pectin and sorbitol, which help control appetite and protect against the sun.
