In a note, the Minister of Justice and Security, Carlos Hercules, informed that in order to promote the restoration of public order, social peace and security, the Council of Ministers has extended the security state of emergency in the northern departments of Artibonite, Centre, Nipes, West and the regions of Plaisance and Limbe for one month, from Monday, August 19, 2024 to Thursday, September 19. “In accordance with article 7 of the decree of March 15, 2021, amending the law of April 15, 2010 on the state of emergency of September 9, 2008, and in accordance with this order, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) wishes to draw attention to certain exceptional measures that may be taken, in particular: the closure of institutions in the absence of other means of protection; the evacuation of persons; the construction or demolition of buildings and the movement of any property; the suspension of certain essential services, such as road, sea, air and telephone communications, in the sectors and areas affected by the state of emergency. If the logistical resources available to public services are insufficient, the Government may also requisition additional emergency resources and accommodation facilities belonging to private individuals.”
“During this period, a curfew may be imposed, if necessary, in provinces and territories where a state of emergency has been declared. It is also important to note that the importation, sale, purchase, distribution and use of fireworks is prohibited during the state of emergency.”
