DAKAR, Senegal, 29th July, 2024 (WAM) — The Republic of Senegal hosted the third Arab Poetry Forum, organized by the Sharjah Ministry of Culture in partnership with the Senegalese Literature Club, with the participation of 13 poets.
The forum is hosted by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjahand is part of the African Poetry Forum programme.
The forum was held in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, and was attended by Dr. Fadl Gaye, president of the Senegalese Literature Club, representatives of Senegalese cultural and literary institutions, as well as poets and writers.
In his speech, Mohamed Hadi Sarr, the forum’s coordinator, thanked His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman for his continued support for Arab culture and poetry, noting that the Senegalese Arab Poetry Forum has become an important platform for Senegalese poets to unleash their creativity.
Dr. Ghay stressed the importance of strengthening cultural ties between the Arab world and Africa by organizing events that contribute to the exchange of ideas and creativity.
He also stressed that the Senegalese Arab Poetry Forum is the most important event in the country and one of the famous cultural and literary events that celebrates Arab poetry and brings together Senegalese poets and intellectuals.
The forum included a poetry seminar moderated by Senegalese poet Abdel Karim Gaye and a critical seminar entitled “Senegalese Arabic Literature (Poetry and Fiction) Between Reality and Hope”, which explored the development of Senegalese Arabic literature and its future prospects.
It also discusses the challenges faced by Senegalese writers and the difficulties that hinder the dissemination of their works, as well as how to enhance the visibility of Senegalese Arabic literature at the local and international levels.
The readings cover a variety of themes and purposes, such as identity, belonging, and cultural coexistence.
