US President Joe Biden delivered a stirring speech at the opening of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last night, which was seen as one of his final farewell words to Democratic supporters.
Biden took to the stage in tears after she greeted his daughter Ashley at the microphone, with the reception appearing to bring the 81-year-old US President to tears.
Thousands of people at his center stood up and applauded him, then chanted “Thank you, Joe.”
Biden spoke in many ways, saying that the Democratic Party and its supporters are fighting for the American spirit.
He defended his legacy of action in the United States and said he would do more in the coming months.
Speaking about the US support for the Palestinian and Gaza demonstrations, he said the demonstrators had beards and, as he said, many people had been killed in Gaza.
He called his decision to sit out the election and support Kamala Harris the best decision he ever made.
He called on the American people to elect Democratic candidates Harris and Waltz, believing that this would be tantamount to defending American democracy.
Other topics he touched on included immigration, the economy and foreign affairs.
