The Capital Region Fire Department has received an unusually high number of calls this evening due to water leaks. It is noteworthy that all but one of the leaks occurred in nearby areas of the Capital Region where hot water has been shut off due to the ongoing connection work to Suðuræð 2 by Veitna.
According to the fire department duty officer, most of the alarms were related to the furnace system, but it was difficult to say whether the leaks were due to increased pressure in the system in anticipation of the need for maintenance or something else.
However, he said it seemed unusual that the fire department had to deal with four calls of furnace leaks in different places in such a short period of time.
The first call came around dinner time, but the hot water was switched off at 10pm last night in Kopavogur, Gardabær, Hafnarfjörður, Nordringaholt, Breiholt and Alftanes. The hot water shortage will last for three days.
