The American Red Cross is gearing up for its biggest fundraiser of the year, the annual Red Ball, which supports the nonprofit’s mission to provide aid in times of need for communities. According to the Red Cross, “More than 90 cents of every dollar raised goes to activities directly related to our mission to alleviate suffering during emergencies. The power of the Red Cross means no community is left behind by its fundraising capabilities.” This was evident when the American Red Cross raised $13 million for aid following Typhoon Mawar. “Without this network of support, I daresay we would have been in a much worse situation,” ARC Board Chairman Marcus Fong said in a news release Monday. In addition to raising funds to respond to natural disasters like typhoons or other disasters like house fires, the annual Red Ball is also designed to raise awareness, he said.
