A rare “blue supermoon” appears in the sky

Now is the time to check out the sky, because a supermoon will be shining brightly in the sky on Monday through Tuesday evenings.

The moon now shows the British newspaper The Guardian It is about one-seventh larger and brighter than normal. Normally, the Moon is about 384,000 km from Earth, but now it is about 23,000 km closer. The Moon’s orbit is not perfectly circular, so the distance of celestial bodies from us varies.

The supermoon visible in the sky right now is a rare phenomenon, as it is called a “blue supermoon”. The so-called “blue moon” refers to two full moons in one month or four full moons in the same season. This time it is the latter. Despite the cool name, the moon does not appear to be blue.

According to NASA Supermoons occur several times a year. Blue Moons, on the other hand, are much rarer, occurring about once every few years.

In addition to the Blue Supermoon, Saturn’s rings and its bright moon Titan can be seen with binoculars or a telescope.
