Seek national manager Rob Clark said the only thing that hadn’t changed was the fierce competition between candidates – and that it showed “no signs of abating”.
“While it is encouraging to see an increase in job advertisements, this follows five consecutive months of declines, including an 8 per cent fall in June,” he said.
Retail and consumer advertising grew 24%, followed by hospitality and tourism at 20% and government and defence at 22%.
Consulting and strategy was the only industry to see a monthly decline in job postings – down 7%.
“In some of the larger regions, such as the Bay of Plenty, Auckland and Wellington, the number of job ads in July saw their largest monthly increase in more than two years,” Clark said.
