Abu DhabiUnited Arab Emirates August 19, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Abu Dhabi Airports, operator of five airports in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, has announced its passenger traffic results for the first half of 2024.
January to June 2024 Abu Dhabi’s airport network achieved an impressive milestone with passenger traffic approaching 14 million, a significant increase of 33.5 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Zayed International Airport (AUH) alone welcomed more than 13.7 million passengers, an increase of 33.8%. At the same time, flight movements also increased by 24.3%, totaling 84,286 in the first half of 2024.

The advanced baggage handling system can process up to 19,200 bags per hour. The augmented reality Wayfinder makes it easier for passengers to find their way around the airport, providing real-time navigation throughout the terminal. It is also the only airport in the region to offer U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) pre-clearance services, and one of only 15 airports worldwide, allowing passengers to bypass inspection lines upon arrival in the U.S.
Sustainability is a core element of Zayed International Airport, which is a certified “green building” according to PBRS, having been awarded 3 pearls during the design phase. Over 90% of the steel and wood used in the construction of the new terminal are certified and come from sustainable sources, reducing the use of raw materials and promoting a circular economy. Over 70% of the plants used in the terminal campus landscaping are native and adapted species, tolerant of drought and salt. Water-saving fixtures and fittings have been installed throughout the airport, a 45% improvement over the Estidama baseline figure.
