The Orthodox Church celebrates the Transfiguration of the Savior today.

The Epiphany is one of the twelve feasts. According to the Bible, on this day, Jesus Christ changed his color and revealed his divine glory in front of the three disciples, Peter, James and John, on Mount Tabor. Moses and the prophet Elijah appeared to the Savior clothed with heavenly glory. They told the Lord about the passion and suffering that awaited him in Jerusalem. After that, a bright cloud appeared above the apostles, and the voice of God said from the cloud: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I have found grace. Listen to this” (Matthew xvii, 5). Seeing this, the disciples, terrified, fell to the ground, and looking up, they saw Jesus standing before them. He warned the future apostles not to tell anyone about this news until he was resurrected.

Three visible miracles occur in Jerusalem every year: the coming of fire from heaven on Easter, the Epiphany (January 19), the turning back of the Jordan River, and the arrival of a cloud on Mount Tabor on August 19 (the night of the Transfiguration).

On the day of the Epiphany, grapes and fruit are blessed in the temples. For those who fast, the day begins with fish.
