The Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition and other political leaders spoke at Tūrangawaewae Square in Koronehana.
one Celebrating the coronation of the Maori King The coronation ceremony began at Tūrangawaewae marae in Ngāruawāhia on Friday and also marked the 18th anniversary of the death of Māori queen Dame Te Atairangikahu.
Celebrations will continue throughout the week, but Monday is the most political day – politicians are expected to speak at pōwhiri. Kiingitanga will speak first, followed by government and opposition politicians.

Speeches were given by Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Labour leader Chris Hipkins, Maori-Crown Relations Minister Tama Potaka (National) and Labour spokesperson Peeni Henare, all of whom speak fluent Maori.
Senior New Zealand First MP Shane Jones, Te Pāti Māori MP Tākuta Ferris and Green Party co-leader Chloe Swarbrick also spoke on behalf of their parties.
ACT leader David Seymour will not attend, and some whether The party was invited.
